Skype and eBay

Sun May 21, 2006, 11:27 AM
A while back eBay annouced that they were no longer going to allow Canadians to collect eBay anything Points (there goes my ebay mastercard). Now finally they had come to there senses and done something great. They bought out Skype for 2.6 billion dollars. It's an awsome program i use at work and will soon be using at home. It's VOIP, Voice Over IP, basically you can make phone calls to anyone landline or cell (this is known as Skype Out) and skype users. Since they bought them out eBay is allowing everyone to phone US and Canada free until the end of the year. Not like it will cost you much after 0.024 cents a minute anywhere in Canada. When you spend 20 bucks a month on a restricted (only after 6pm, before 8 am or weekends) long-distance plan it only makes sense to switch. Google missed out bigtime not buying them out.

Sunscreen

Mon May 15, 2006, 9:10 PM
I remember lisening to this on the bus going to to and from school, in grade 10. I've always wanted to hear a recording of it every since but for now the lyrics will have to do.
This song just reminded me of this other song; it was all about suicide about how great it would be if you didn't have to live anymore, the song wasn't song, but lyrics just said instead. It started off by saying something like if it was so easy to committeee then we would have cats and dogs trying the same. The artists mentions how we would never have to stand in long line ups at the grocery store when we only had one item.....
If anyone knows the lyrics of that please pass them along, I love that song. My friend pointed out that there was more negative things mentioned in the song about suicide then positive (I thought it was the opposite). I don't know the song name nor the artists'.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of ’99
If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be
it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by
scientists whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable
than my own meandering
experience…I will dispense this advice now.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh nevermind; you will not
understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded.
But trust me, in 20 years you’ll look back at photos of yourself and
recall in a way you can’t grasp now how much possibility lay before
you and how fabulous you really looked….You’re not as fat as you
imagine.

Don’t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as
effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing
bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that
never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm
on some idle Tuesday.

Do one thing everyday that scares you

Sing

Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts, don’t put up with
people who are reckless with yours.

Floss

Don’t waste your time on jealousy; sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes
you’re behind…the race is long, and in the end, it’s only with
yourself.

Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you
succeed in doing this, tell me how.

Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.

Stretch

Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your
life…the most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22 what they
wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year
olds I know still don’t.

Get plenty of calcium.

Be kind to your knees, you’ll miss them when they’re gone.

Maybe you’ll marry, maybe you won’t, maybe you’ll have children, maybe
you won’t, maybe you’ll divorce at 40, maybe you’ll dance the funky
chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary…what ever you do, don’t
congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either – your
choices are half chance, so are everybody else’s. Enjoy your body,
use it every way you can…don’t be afraid of it, or what other people
think of it, it’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever
own..

Dance…even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.

Read the directions, even if you don’t follow them.

Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.

Get to know your parents, you never know when they’ll be gone for
good.

Be nice to your siblings; they are the best link to your past and the
people most likely to stick with you in the future.

Understand that friends come and go,but for the precious few you
should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and
lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you
knew when you were young.

Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; live
in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.

Travel.

Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will
philander, you too will get old, and when you do you’ll fantasize
that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were
noble and children respected their elders.

Respect your elders.

Don’t expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund,
maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one
might run out.

Don’t mess too much with your hair, or by the time you're 40, it will
look 85.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who
supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of
fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the
ugly parts and recycling it for more than
it’s worth.

But trust me on the sunscreen…

Web sites you should know about

Sat Apr 29, 2006, 1:43 PM
These here are ideas/websites you should know about:

Gmail [link] Over 2 gbs of storage space for e-mail, easy retrival and no more silly folder system for saving e-mail. Let me know if you want an invite, currently the only way to get access.

Wikipedia [link] If you havn't heard of this website then you are probably living under a rock; one of the best resources online!

Freecycle [link] Image this: you have stuff you want to get rid of, but not enough for a grage sale or a garage sale is too much work for you. Use freecycle to connect to members of your community and list your items you no longer want. It's free and it's recycling, hence Freecycle.

BC Green Party's Gateway Grid Lock Vs Livable Region, Which Future Do You Want? [link]
the official website for the Gateway project; the BC government is planning on paving the Fraser Valley to create a solution to the gridlock problem, but in reality it will only make it much worst with such little focus in transit. See: [link]

One Library Card [link]
Have one library card for any library in the InterLink system; from Boston Bar to Sechelt. There is talk of the program extending to include all of BC.

eBay news and updates

Sat Mar 11, 2006, 3:39 PM
I was originally not planning on updating my journal because I figured not many read it, but then my best-friend pointed out that he often finds stuff out about me, that he would otherwise not know if it wasn't for my dA Journal. You find everything on the Internet!
eBay has really done . They have decided to ditch the “eBay Anything Points Program”, including the “eBay Anything Points Mastercard”, which I just happen to be a card holder to; it is my favourite online store and my favorite card---it's a conversation piece.
So I have to the end of May to collect points and then I'm screwed.
There rational: “This decision was made after receiving input from Canadian members and evaluating the benefit to the Community. We believe this decision will allow us to devote our energy to making eBay Canada an even greater marketplace for our buyers and sellers. As you may know, this program has already been discontinued in the U.S.” (from there site: [link])
One of Canada's best comedians, Rick Mercer has put up an interesting joke bid on eBay, called “”the Rick Mercer Report Liberal Leadership Kit” it has about 3 days left, current bid: C $16,000,000.00. You can see it here [link] Mercer's show is on weekly Tuesday at 8 pm. The show is political/current events humour.

Right now I am working at Cascade Aerospace (in Abby) full time and starting this Monday I will be officially in a contract position with Marshall Aerospace (Canada) Inc. Marshall is a company working for Cascade in case you are wondering (and a few others as well). Marshall is just setting up there new Canadian office, they are originally all from Manchester, UK (other then myself there is only one other non-British employee). I work on there digital aerospace technical library; there is defiantly plenty of work for me there, I just received 85.5 gigabytes of data that must all be entered.

update updated

Sat Jan 14, 2006, 6:40 PM
For those wondering:
I am now done the library program at UCFV and am job hunting; jobs that I have applied for are anywhere from Victoria, Vancouver and Fraser Valley (Abby/Mission).
Yes I'm still vegan and I have now given up eating honey for about two weeks now, but not sure what to do about lipgloss or wax paper (both contain bee by-products) as I use them often.
Not to long ago I managed to get lost (should have read the directions, and Pinky (my car) got stuck in mud while trying to back out of a dead end. A few days before that I made cookies and it said to lay the cookie sheet with "parchment paper"; whatever that is. The box on the wax paper said "great for baking and cooking purposes"; well it didn't work and the cookies got stuck to the wax paper (next time I will just use oil spray).
For those that follow the news/politics, there is a really funny blog by Rick Mercer; Canadian comedian who has his own weekly show “Rick Mercer's Report” ([link]). His blog is found here: [link]
